CHARLOTTESVILLE–
Harrisonburg was prepped coming into this one, and with good reason. In their first game, they beat number 22 EC Glass in Lynchburg 14-0, a game they were expected to lose. Last week, after another 14-0 victory in their home opener against Handley, the Blue Streaks thought they were headed for the top 25, but, alas, they were left out of last week’s rankings.
So going to Charlottesville in a Region 4A West game and winning would be great for the Blue Streaks program.
Charlottesville, on the other hand, had just come off of their bye week, and before that, they lost at (20) Dominion, 12-6.
So the Black Knights and the Blue Streaks, each coming from very different places record wise, played it out at Theodose Stadium on Friday.
The results were not what Harrisonburg had hoped for.
The game started out well for Harrisonburg. At the end of the first quarter, Charlottesville allowed a Harrisonburg punt to roll all the way to their own one-yardline.
Then, of course (who else) Rashad Brock, the senior running back for the Knights, pulled out some of that magic. He ran up the left side on first and 10, broke free, and ran for a 99-yard touchdown.
7-0, Charlottesville.
Then, the second quarter proved even better than the first for the Knights. Sophomore Rahkeem Davis, for the Black Knights, ripped off a 59-yard score on a keeper. Another touchdown in the second quarter put the Knights up 22-0.
Finally, Charlottesville’s defense. It killed Harrisonburg. Charlottesville defenders sacked Harrisonburg quarterback A.C. White eight times on the night and held the Blue Streaks to just six points in the entire game. Deandre Bryant, Sadarius Folley, and the other pack of CHS defenders made sure Harrisonburg’s hoped of being in the top 25 next week almost impossible.
The Black Knights, on the other hand, might just be there.
The final was 28-6.
Charlottesville plays @ William Monroe next Friday on 9/18.
Harrisonburg hosts (4) Brookville next Friday on 9/18.
